About the tube

The new 803 design will substitute and upgrade any amp that has ECC83/12AX7 fitted. This tube has longer plates than the standard ECC83S and offers more bite and slightly more gain. These are excellent tubes in all aspects.

The JJ tubes are great valves and are a very popular tube in the guitarist circle. The design alternative to the standard ECC83 is well worth a try if you are looking for a smooth midrange tone.


What about the tone?

Like the ECC83S the valve tends to bring out the natural tone of the instrument and has a clean detailed edge which we found rounder and warmer than other standard types of 12AX7. Background hiss and hum was also very low at high gain settings. Also we found that compared to the standard 12AX7 the mids were very smooth and possessed more clarity but overall the tube had slightly more bass.

Drive the tube and you get that classic crunch sound which sounded round and retro. Great Stuff. This valve is suited for those that love vintage valve tone and work well in most leading brand amps. In conclusion we found the 803S Very similar in tone to the JJ ECC83S but with a bit more warmth and flatter frequency response.

Audio tests were carried out in a Rivera Duo 100w combo amplifier.
